An unexpected expat blogger behind Echo Rural Link

Hello there, I'm Joris
A project manager and a parent, I currently live abroad as an expat in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually blossomed into a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn’t in our long-range plan. As with many international relocations, it began as a job opportunity and quickly grew into something bigger.
The initial months were demanding — adjusting to new systems, routines, and expectations. Everyday chores seemed more complex than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and lots of hands-on learning. Yet gradually routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and started building something that felt stable.
Why I Built Echo Rural Link
Most online guidance was either corporate relocation advice or shallow tourism material. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site exists to fill that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Does (And Doesn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- A sponsored review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Forward
Our stay in Netherlands goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue documenting what we learn.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Cheers,
Joris
